Kiln Diary #14
Marking the end of the year in the studio
Fire is an essential element at the heart of my work. I use the flame and volatile atmosphere within the kiln to unlock the secret stories of colour hidden in the minerals from the landscape of Cornwall.
Fire also a symbol for new beginnings and hope. Today is Winter Solstice when we mark the end of the old year and celebrate the return of the light. Here in Penzance, there will be much merrymaking and mischief at the Montol Festival, a Cornish mid-winter tradition of music and dancing in the street culminating in the lighting of a beacon.
I would like to thank everyone who has supported me during the year. Whether buying a piece of work for a collection or as a gift, sending me messages from around the world or visiting the porcelain studio at Trinity House in Penzance. I hope you have enjoyed our Kiln Diaries. We have lots of plans for the incoming year for exhibitions and special events so please do keep in touch.
Warm wishes to you all for a safe, peaceful and joyous Christmas holiday with a productive and creative year ahead.
