ONLINE SPRING EXHIBITION GOING LIVE

SATURDAY 21st MAY 2022 at 7pm

I am pleased to confirm a date for the next online exhibition. Make a note in your diary as we will be going live on Saturday 21st May at 7pm with my selection of porcelain vessels for the Spring collection. It has been a busy and intensive time in the studio. A quick summary of diverse tasks includes laying the foundations for a new kiln, renovating the floor in the gallery space at Trinity House and making a large order of tableware pieces for a gallery in Tokyo.

It is a relief to see all the work from the Winter months finally emerge. All the pots that you see in this edition of the Kiln Diary will be included in the collection and available to purchase when the link goes live online.  In addition to the more familiar pieces that I make, Pods, Teabowls and Tall forms, I have been working on a group of finely thrown vessels that have developed from the Conical bowl. A selection of these Spring Vessels will be available and are the first pieces fired in the soda-kiln for the Spring online exhibition.

They have a softer range of colour with a smokey grey and lemon palette and flashes of my signature copper turquoise blue to warm umbers and russet. For this collection I have focussed on a lighter, more ethereal feel, often contrasted with a darker interior or a richly carved surface. For me the joy of porcelain is in its capacity to reflect light. No other clay can produce such a gentle but penetrating glow.

I have also enjoyed drawing onto the surfaces of some of the vessels when they are in a bone-dry state before firing. The subtle marks are picked up by the flame and soda in the kiln.

We will send out a reminder next week with a few more images of the pieces as they are photographed for the website.

My signed, Limited Edition book, Living Space, is available to purchase online and if you should be passing through Penzance our Trinity House studio and gallery continues to be open by appointment.

Please do get in touch if you have any further questions about my work or the Spring Collection 2022.
