Kiln Diary #26
VESSELS FROM A SUMMER FIRING
FRIDAY 11th AUGUST at 7pm, UK time
The summer months drifted by so quickly. I am always aware that I depend on this time of year to fire many of the larger exhibition pieces that have been slowly drying in the studio. I have been working with the new soda kiln, learning her idiosyncrasies and producing some bright summer colours and surfaces. Over time I have built and rebuilt this kiln design six times and each one has had its own distinct individual character.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has signed up for my newsletter. As I work in a fairly remote and isolated way from my studio in Cornwall, it is comforting and reassuring to know that I am connected out there in some way and have a loyal group of supporters who enjoy and value my work.
I wanted to show you some of the summer forms from my recent firings with vibrant copper blues and warm rich russet tones. I added a small, selected group to the online gallery for this weekend. The pieces were available for sale from 7pm on Friday 11th August 2023 and included complimentary shipping within the UK. You can find these exhibition images on my Collections page. I do hope you enjoy the exhibition.
If you find yourself in Cornwall, you are welcome to visit our beautiful ceramic studio and gallery located in a historic building at Penzance harbour. We always have a collection of exhibition level porcelain vessels and a range of my distinctive functional stoneware available. We are now open from Wednesday – Saturday 11am - 4pm. It is possible to visit on other days but as I am often working at the kiln site it is best to contact me in advance to arrange a time to meet there.
I am happy to personally answer any questions you may have about my work jack@dohertyporcelain.com
