Trinity Sign.jpg

In May, we have been delighted to welcome our first visitors to the new dedicated Porcelain Studio and Gallery at Trinity House in Penzance harbour. It is an exciting venture for us with lots of potential and possibilities. We are currently open by appointment and look forward to greeting you if you find yourselves down in Cornwall this summer. We have a selected range of work available for sale, including tableware and larger individual vessels displayed in the light and spacious exhibition room. The space is hugely important to showcase my work in the natural light and shadow.

Trinity House and the yard has a fascinating history with historical seafaring links. The company coat of arms is still imprinted in the wall above our imposing black front door. Originally the offices for Trinity House, the high ceilings and double window aspect of our exhibition space looks out over the South Pier and the industrial buildings of the working harbour where appropriately china clay was once exported. This is where the Scillonian III makes her regular daily sailings to the Scilly Isles and occasional visiting vessels like the tall ship Gallant, trading between Colombia, the Azores and Portugal bringing her cargo of coffee beans, olive oil and goods from the Mediterranean.

Please contact us if you would like to visit.

Loewe Foundation Craft Prize Exhibition 2021

This week the winner of the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize 2021 was announced. Congratulations go to the incredible work of Chinese textile artist Fanglu Lin. It was an honour to be selected as one of 30 finalists from over one hundred countries and my Guardian Vessel is currently being showcased in an immersive virtual space that recreates the interior of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. It is so disappointing not to be there in person, but the virtual exhibition is both innovative and extraordinary. It is possible to explore the shortlisted pieces captured in high-definition 3D renderings. The Loewe Foundation describe the online event as “an expert-led curation of the most exciting contemporary craft being made in the world today.” Quite an amazing presentation of outstanding quality work promoting creativity and craft in a contemporary reality.

The Loewe Foundation have also launched a new website called ‘The Room’ representing work by all the finalists from the previous 4 years. Currently there are seventeen of my Guardian Vessels and exhibition pieces on show there.

Studio News

I am currently working towards a Summer collection that will be showcased in July or early August. We will be able to give more information about this in our next Kiln Diary as the work progresses. I am working on a small number of forms playing with scale and proportion whilst exploring subtle and complex surfaces.

I have been overwhelmed by the amazing response to the Spring Collection and I would like to thank everyone. We are sorry that some people were disappointed as the work sold so quickly, but we do keep a select group of work available at the Trinity House Studio. Please contact us as we might have that special piece you are looking for.
